Just got done reading your book. My mom heard you on a Christian radio program & sent me your book. I am working on the devotionals in the back of the book now. Your life story SO parallels mine. Born & raised in a Christian home, had the fairy tale ideals for marriage. Married in 1991 at the age of 21 (husband 26 & from a very broken childhood & family life-ended up in foster care) Started our life with 2 years at Bible school but began having children in 1993 & 6 beautiful children later, the stress of life, finances, work & lack of connection in the church & no fellowship to speak of plus brokenness from childhood for my husband has taken him to a very dark place with addiction in a different form. I have been counseling with a womens pastor at church & we have come very close to the place you were at when you needed to leave for your safety. My husband took the step to be willing to go to counseling (I was always willing)/ I’m still a bit guarded, but hopeful that God is doing a work in my husband & your book was so encouraging because I have no desire to leave but to see healing & restoration take place. In 2009 I went through a Spiritual Freedom class & God opened the avenue of songwriting as an outlet for me but my husband has not been supportive of this & it has been a difficult struggle for me. Just this summer I have stepped into playing piano once a month for church. My heart attitude is walking in obedience to God not out of rebellion against my husband. I am seeking God daily as we walk through life & see that He still has a lot of work to do in me as we walk this road. The music God has given me has over & over encouraged my heart & only want to share it to encourage others hearts who are going through struggles & to point them to God. Thank you so much for sharing your story & allowing God to use your brokenness for His glory & to share hope with others going through the same thing. To God be the glory! Please pray for continued healing in our marriage & for our children ages 10-20. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing, Judy. It is a long and difficult road. Be assured that none of your sorrows will be wasted. God is using this journey to refine you. It is so important to remain in community, reaching out to others, enjoying life and remembering that there can still be good and fulfilling things in your life. Yes, I am praying for you, now, that God would draw your husband fully to him, that you would know the precious peace of His presence and that you too, would encourage others with your steadfast faith and even your music! If you happen to be on face book, there is a community of praying wives that mostly stemmed from the book’s face book page. If you would like to be part of that private group, let me know. They are so very sincere in their prayers and encouragement. There is another study that I’ve written called, Do You See Me? It is an intensive study that really peels away the years of hurt and lies of the enemy. I begin teaching a new session in a few weeks. If you would like to do the study, or lead a small group, we give you the PDF files for the handouts, supply discussion questions and you will be able to download the teaching that will be taped. It’s also a good way to build support and community for not only you but other women who are struggling and hurting. Take care and please, keep me posted as to how the Lord moves in your family.
Grace & Peace,
